Too many toys? how to choose the right toy for your child!!

As a natural, ongoing part of our work as parents, teachers, early childhood specialists, and others involved with children at home or elsewhere, we observe children at play. With our eyes we see what works…and what doesn’t hold up under tough testing – the normal barrage of active, inquisitive, and resourceful babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and older children. This guide is now offered to complement your observations and to help you in selecting the right products to enhance your child’s play and learning. We make buying decisions based on lasting play value and product applicability to a balance of children’s active, creative, and educational experiences. We can depend on the durability and versatility of such items as blocks, construction toys, games, puppets, and transportation toys. They stimulate the imagination, engage the player, have value, and hold up over time. We want to apply these standards to all of the play product choices we make. We often hear consumers describe their experience of making a purchase, but shortly after giving little Sally or Sammy the product, it falls apart – a frustrating and expensive experience. Products that do not meet safety standards can be dangerous and can cause harm to children. We want to avoid these problems and always strive for excellence. I spend a great deal of time reviewing a large quantity of products created by myriad manufacturers and designers. I make sure my selections match the criteria for excellence. Certainly, age grading, name recognition, company reputation dependability, versatility of design, and place of purchase are factors to obtain the right product. Another aspect you can depend on is a warranty. Rising costs for products require us to be wise consumers and to get extra lasting value. We believe that durable products, properly designed, and developmentally correct are worth the money. Children’s positive reactions are worth the extra effort. I utilize a complicated set of objective and subjective criteria to evaluate toys and other products. Some questions for you to ask are: Is this product worth the price? Does it have lasting “play value”? Is it age-appropriate? Is it fun? Does it meet safety standards? Dr. Toy is pleased to have the opportunity to share her years of play and toy experiences with consumers to assist them in the selection process. This timely report features information about l00 wonderful new toys and products from large and small companies. The toys and products selected meet my high standards for design, durability, price, quality, safety, and value. Dr. Toy reminds parents and teachers, “Let’s not forget that ‘play is children’s work’ and should be respected and understood by all adults.” We should be thinking: “What products or ‘tools for play’ can we obtain to provide wholesome experiences for children and provide plenty of positive play interactions.” Dr Toy’s Smart Play/Smart Toys: How to Raise a Child with a High P.Q. (Play Quotient) was written for new parents, and others who care about children, and is available in toy and book stores or on line. Dr Toy invites consumers to take the time to describe play and product experiences and ask questions about toys and products. Following are the award-winning toys and products and the companies that make them grouped in selected categories of “smart” play. how to choose the write baby monitor??

Choosing a baby monitor can be a daunting task for many people, especially for new parents who don’t have experience buying this type of device. However, there are certain steps you can take to make the process of finding one much simpler. One of the first things you need to think about is what exactly you want out of a baby monitor. What would you like it to do? Would you be happy just being able to hear baby’s sounds, or would you feel better peace of mind being able to see your baby as well as hear them? Or perhaps you would like to monitor your baby’s breathing? Please see my short descriptions below of each type: Audio baby monitor: This type allows you to listen to your baby’s sounds. It usually comes with a transmitter (baby unit), and a receiver (parent unit). Video baby monitor: This type of monitor allows you to see your baby as well as hear them. It usually comes with a transmitter which is a small camera (baby unit), and a receiver which is a handheld screen (parent unit). Baby breathing monitor: A breathing/movement monitor detects even the smallest movements made by breathing. There are a couple of types you can opt for; one which comes with a sensor mat and alarm, or one which consists of a small device which clips on to baby’s nappy. With the sensor pad type, the mat is placed under baby’s mattress in order to detect baby’s breathing. Some breathing monitors also have audio monitoring combined, so that you can also use it to listen in on your baby. Baby monitors either come with an analogue signal or a digital signal, although most of the more modern models are digital. Generally, a digital monitor will provide a better sound quality, and won’t have any interference with other in house electronics such as mobile phones. Once you have decided which type you want to go for, you should make yourself familiar with the different features the modern baby monitors come with. You can do this by searching through the online stores and looking at the product descriptions. You may also find it useful to speak with a customer advisor at one of the baby stores. This will help you to realise which features you will require. You may also find it useful to speak with other moms and dads on the parenting forums, but only ask for recommendations from members who have recently purchased a baby monitor. Technology is always changing, so it wouldn’t be much use taking recommendations from someone who purchased a monitor a year ago. If you have more than one child that you would like to monitor, or you are pregnant with your first baby and you may have more children in the future, you may want to consider purchasing a video baby monitor that can connect to more than one camera. These are called multi-camera baby monitors (or multiple camera baby monitors), and some models can even connect with up to 4 cameras. This feature is excellent for parents who want to monitor more than one child, with just one baby monitor. Below I have listed some other tips which you should take on board when choosing a baby monitor: Always choose a model made by a well-known reliable brand, such as Tomy, or Samsung. Always check the manufacturers guarantee period before making your purchase. If the device were to break, you want to be able to have it replaced or repaired. Always read product reviews for the models you are interested in. This way you will be able to see other parents’ opinions on these devices, but remember that there will always usually be a bad review or two in there somewhere. If you are worried about what was mentioned in the bad reviews, you could always phone the manufacturer to discuss these issues with them before deciding to buy. Honest diapers review!!

They are truely really cool diapers. I love the outside of them and what they stand for! They are a little on the pricey side but you have them delivered to your door what is better than that and everything it stands for is really cool! Read below what i extracted from their website!! Why did you choose the name "The Honest Company"? When we were trying to think of a name for our company, we thought we should choose something that reflected our core values and highest aspirations. Something that would keep us focused on doing things right and doing things better. The Honest Company was the clear choice. If you look up "honest" in the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the words you'll find in the definition outline our beliefs and intentions. "Honest" means: Free from fraud or deception, truthful – We believe in transparency and that applies to everything – from what we put into our products and how they are made to our internal operations and how we do things. Genuine, real – The Honest Company was started by parents for parents. We are real tangible people, parents that understand what families need and we want to deliver on that – not some big corporation with no social consciousness that only cares about making a profit. Respectable, praiseworthy – We are people with integrity and we intend on not only doing things right, but also going above and beyond to earn your respect and loyalty – making you so delighted you want to shout it from a rooftop (or tweet it from your iPhone). Humble – We know no one can be absolutely perfect and a part of our commitment to honesty means we'll admit our flaws. It's pretty scary, but we think it's a good way to keep us focused on constant improvement. Honestly? This is the beginning of a long journey and we expect we'll make mistakes and drift from the path here and there. We're only human. But, by naming ourselves after our purest intentions, we will constantly be reminded to do better. The even have a HONESTLY FREE GUARANTEE if you arent satisfied to make sure you like them! You can cancel at anytime! Try them out they will send you samples for the cost of shipping!! 5.95.

Ameda Store and Pour Breast Milk Storage Bag

{My Review} The Ameda Store 'N Pour starter kit works very well. I love that it comes with two adapters in case you misplace one. The adapters fit many brands of breast pumps which is great. I do not have an Ameda pump and the adapter screwed onto my flange perfectly. The adapters hook securely into the storage bags. You have to close the seals of the bags as much as possible around the adapter to create more of a suction. I noticed that because of the air transfer on the sides of the adapter I had to turn my pump up higher than when a bottle was attached. The pump worked just as well though. If you were using a manual pump I would imagine it would be more difficult because you would have to pump harder and/or faster to get the same suction because of the escaping air. I do not pump that often, a few times a week when my son sleeps for a long period of time. When he has slept all night I usually pump the side opposite that he is nursing on in the morning. This is kind of tricky with the Store 'N Pour bags as I am trying to keep the bag sealed around the adapter, make sure none spills when I have to move the baby and try to keep my son latched on properly. The kit works much more easily when I am not breastfeeding at the same time. I think the Store 'N Pour storage kit would be ideal for mothers who pump at work. Especially if you have a double pump with pumping bra! You could pump directly into the storage bags. This would save the time needed to pour the milk into storage bags, wash and sterilize the bottles for the next pump break and minimize the risk of spilling the hard-earned milk. The bags stand up when full of milk and sealed. This feature has pros and cons for me. Pro: you can easily see the amount of milk in the bag in ounces after pumping. Con: The bags are shorter than some and get fatter. I prefer to lay the bags of milk horizontally in the freezer so they freeze in easily stack-able layers. The Ameda Store 'N Pour bags take up more room in the freezer standing up and do not stack well. The Pour feature is awesome on these bags. Great for baby-sitters or dads. Just defrost, snip the tab and pour into a bottle to be warmed. Much less chance of someone spilling your precious milk while trying to unseal the bag and pour into a bottle through a big opening. The starter kit costs $23.99 for the two adapters and 20 bags. You can then buy the refill bags for $37.99 for 40 bags. I think the kit is great but find the price kind of steep for milk storage bags. However, if you are an exclusively pumping mama or a mom that pumps at work then the price would definitely be worth the time savings mentioned above. {Buy It} Ameda Store 'N Pour Milk Storage: Getting Started Kit --- $23.99 Ameda Store 'N Pour Milk Storage Refill Bags --- $37.99 for 40 bags Mother's Choice Products has a large selection of Ameda products. Mother's Choice Products only ships within CANADA. {Disclosure} I received the Ameda Store 'N Pour milk storage kit free of charge from Mother's Choice Products to facilitate this review. All opinions are 100% mine and honest. I will NOT be compensated for sales of these Ameda products or any other items sold by Mother's Choice Products. Scotts Miracle-Gro for SocialSpark

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Scotts Miracle-Gro for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. Since we have finally purchased a house of our own, I have bee n wanting to start a garden. since we moved in during the summer, I figured that was probably not the best time to start one being that it is just so hot here in Texas. Fall is a great time to start thinking about a new garden. With cooler temperatures and better weather, a garden is more likely to thrive here in the South. And to be honest, Fall is my favorite time of year. We can get outside and finally really enjoy the weather and scenery so it makes me want to spruce up my garden and outside areas. MiracleGro Logo(1).jpg Miracle-Gro wants us to "Find beauty in the Fall" with their website that can help you know what to plant and how to spruce up your Fall gardening based on the region where you live. I am in the deep South here in Texas so it is hard to know what will survive, but being that we don't normally have harsh winters, plants seem to thrive a bit better. While I was checking out the website, I saw that tomatoes, carrots and peppers would be good items to start. I use a lot of carrots in my juicing each day so having them readily available would be ideal. Now I have no idea if I have a "green thumb" or not, so this garden would be a test for me. Thankfully my inlaws are fairly knowledgeable when it comes to gardening so I will be enlisting their help as well as the Miracle-Gro website. I think I really want to go with a raised garden bed. I wanted a raised bed mostly so I don't have to worry about bug and other creatures getting the the boxes quite as easily. I found one on Pinterest that I thought was pretty cool looking, now if only they would come build it for me :) It does seem simple enough and since my brothther has the tools to make things like this, I may see if he can help. Raised Garden Bed I also really like the look of this one so it is on the ground, but the plants themselves are higher up. Tall raised garden bed I figured that the Miracle-Gro Flower/Vegetable Garden Soil would work best for this type of planting. Fall plant and feed. I am by no means an expert, but the Miracle-Gro would take a lot of the guesswork about what I would need for the soil and making sure that my plants got the nutrients that they need to grow and flourish. It feeds up to 3 months and if I use the Miracle-Gro Liquafeed as well, I can water and feed at the same time. MG_Flower_Veg_Garden_Soil.jpg You can find out more and follow the Miracle-Gro Facebook page for tips and tricks on what to plant and when. I can't wait to start planning my own garden here soon and be able to have the vegetable and herbs here at home all the time!!Advertisement

Things to buy at the Dollar Store...and a few things to avoid I live way too close to The Dollar Store I end up spending a lot of time there Which means I also tend to spend a lot of money there too. I've bought a few things that have been worth a dollar. And I've bought a few things that are totally not worth a dollar. So stroll with me through the aisles and I will tell you all those things you should snag and all those things you should avoid. Tissue Paper-Snag it It's so much cheaper at The Dollar Store and works great in those recycled gift bags we all have laying around. Scotch Tape-Snag it Is it just me or does your house go through tape like it's going out of style? Thumb Tacks-Snag it You probably don't need these every day, but I did do a project recently and wish I knew they had them at The Dollar Store because I paid too much. Furniture Polish and Window Cleaner: Snag it Both things I use often, both things worth picking up Windex does not corner the market on window cleaner and Pledge doesn't either You can read about Anna's top secret cleaning tip (hint, it involves furniture polish) here. Estracell sponges-Pass While they may look like the scotch brite sponges, they are not the same. Don't waste your money Sun dishwashing liquid: Pass This stuff is so watered down that it's cheaper to buy the name brand Stor-it sandwich bags: Snag it We don't use a lot of these baggies (I use my reusable ones instead) but when I do need them, they do the job Potted Meat: Pass I'm pretty sure potted meat is never a good idea also, any "meat" at The Dollar Store-gross! Pretzels: Snag it These are great for lunches and so much cheaper than at the grocery store Kids Shampoo: Snag it If you have kids that wash themselves you know how much shampoo you go through. Shower Curtain: Snag it Now I'm not saying you should use just this shower curtain in your bathroom, but under your fancy shower curtain, this one for $1 is perfect. Washcloths and Towels: Pass So thin and so not worth it Extra Healing Lotion: Pass It may look like Vaseline's healing lotion, but it is not even close. Find a sale and buy the real deal Bobby pins: Pass Honestly didn't know anyone could screw up bobby pins but they did. Don't bother Cotton Swabs: Pass Stick with Q-tips These guys bend before you even stick 'em in your ear. It's like they are scared or something. Pregnancy Test: Snag it Who knew? Seriously, the best $1 deal in the store Compare them with other brands here Glue Pens-Snag it I always peruse the craft aisle you never know what you will find I know I've bought these at Michael's before for WAY more! Colored Pencils: Pass These are awful! They won't sharpen and they get dull in a nanosecond Crayons: Pass There is something to be said for Crayola. They have crayons figured out. These are just waxy and yuck Dough Pate: Pass It's called Pate...seriously...skip it. It's not play doh Bubbles: Snag it I buy these by the armful during the summer Cheap, big and full of fun
